How I handle what you send me

This policy explains what Big Kahuna does with the information you send through this website. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask Marina Austin directly at [email protected].
Big Kahuna is a sole proprietorship based in Estes Park, CO, operated by Marina Austin. It is the party responsible for the information described below.
What I collect
When you use the contact form
Your name, email address, an optional phone number, and whatever you write in the message. This is stored so the request is not lost, and emailed to Marina Austin so it is actually seen.
When you leave a review
Your name, email address, an optional description of yourself such as "property owner", a star rating, and your review. Reviews are held privately until Marina Austin has read them. If published, your name, the description and the review text appear on this website. Your email address is never published - it is kept only so I can reach you about your review.
Publishing is asked for separately, with its own checkbox, and the date you agreed is recorded. If you change your mind, email me and the review comes down.
Automatically, on both
Your IP address and browser user-agent string are recorded with each submission. These are used to identify and block automated spam, and for nothing else. They are never published or shared for marketing.
What I do not do
- I do not sell your personal information, and never have.
- I do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- I do not use it to build a profile of you or track you across other websites.
- I do not add you to a mailing list because you used the contact form.
Who else can see it
Only the suppliers needed to run the site and deliver email, and only to the extent their service requires:
- My website host, [HOSTING PROVIDER], which stores the site and its database.
- My email provider, [EMAIL PROVIDER], which delivers form notifications.
I may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets one cookie: a session cookie used to keep your form submission secure against cross-site request forgery. It is strictly necessary for the form to work, holds no personal information, and is not used to track you.
There are no advertising or social media trackers on this site. Fonts are served from this website's own server rather than a third-party font service, so loading a page does not tell anyone else that you visited.

Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because this site does not track visitors across other websites in the first place, there is nothing for the signal to switch off, and my behaviour is the same whether or not you send it.
How long I keep it
Contact form messages are kept for [HOW LONG - e.g. 24 MONTHS], so past work and conversations can be looked up. Published reviews are kept for as long as they appear on the site. Reviews that are not published are kept for [HOW LONG] and then deleted. Spam-prevention data is kept for [HOW LONG - e.g. 12 MONTHS].
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
Email [email protected] and ask. I will tell you what I hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, or delete it, within [HOW LONG - 30 DAYS IS THE USUAL COMMITMENT]. You do not need to give a reason, and asking costs you nothing.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights under state privacy law. I apply the above to everyone who asks, regardless of where they live, because keeping two standards is not worth the trouble.
Children
This site is meant for adults arranging property or notary services. I do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent me something, email me and it will be deleted.
Security
Submissions are sent over an encrypted connection and stored on access-controlled servers. No website can promise perfect security, but I do not keep more than I need, which is the part that actually limits the damage.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version is posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page for [HOW LONG - e.g. 30 DAYS].
